The EGEE project

The Enabling Grids for E-sciencE (EGEE) project aims to create and maintain a production GRID that can be used by people from all the world. It integrates the different national GRID initiatives that already exist in Europe and it also expands to countries outside Europe.

It is also design taking into care its inter-operability with the Open Science Grid (OSG) the main GRID initiative in USA.

What is the GRID?

The GRID is a new way of sharing resources that goes beyond the web. Not only information and files could be shared but also computer resources to run programs, access to databases containing information as the data from experiments, DNA,... as well as direct access to instruments or any other thing that can be shared through a computer.
